Voyager Space to collaborate with Spaceport Nova Scotia development

Maritime Launch Services (MLS) recently announced a partnership with Voyager Space, which has been named the first “Owner Authorized Representative” for Spaceport Nova Scotia. This collaboration appears to signal a new phase in the development of Canada’s first commercial spaceport, potentially opening doors for expanded cooperation in the space industry.

The focus of this partnership is expected to be for Voyager Space to provide support for the engineering, design, and fabrication of critical infrastructure at the spaceport. According to MLS, Voyager Space’s decades of experience in commercial spaceflight engineering, manufacturing, and operations capabilities aligns with the needs of MLS’s clients, with a focus on integrating client requirements into the existing site layout.

“Canada is a long-standing partner of Voyager Space and we are thrilled to support Maritime Launch Services as they build a world-class spaceport in Nova Scotia,” Jeffrey Manber, president of the International and Space Stations at Voyager Space, said in an MLS press release. “Our team’s extensive experience in building customer-focused commercial space systems positions us to deliver exceptional value to Maritime Launch.”

The relationship between MLS and Voyager Space has roots going back to November 2021, when MLS announced that Nanoracks, a Voyager Space company, would be its first customer. That $45 million contract for Nanoracks involved providing payload services, including the deployment of small satellites and hosting spacecraft technology demonstrations. This long-standing relationship might have laid the groundwork for the current partnership, which aims to address various challenges MLS has faced while working toward its vision of creating a world-class launch facility.

The collaboration comes at a time when the Technology Safeguards Agreement between Canada and the United States has been moving forward. According to Stephen Matier, president and CEO of MLS, the agreement “has been instrumental in allowing us to access the best expertise available, ensuring the success of this pioneering initiative.”

There is anticipation around the role Voyager Space could play in supporting MLS’s efforts, with many observing that the company’s experience in building customer-focused commercial space systems could contribute to the development of the spaceport.

As Spaceport Nova Scotia continues to develop, the collaboration between MLS and Voyager Space is likely to draw attention from those following the evolution of Canada’s presence in the global space industry. Observers are speculating this partnership could pave the way for new opportunities in space exploration and commercial space activities.

Spaceport Nova Scotia, which is located on the eastern coast of Canada, has been described as a potential hub for launching small satellites and conducting space missions. The facility’s development is expected to establish Canada as a player in the rapidly evolving space economy. The backing of Voyager Space, along with other industry leaders, might be seen as a positive sign for the future of the spaceport as it moves into its next phase of development.
